Profile: Meg
Williamson
Meg's
first involvement in dogs came at 8 years of age when her
family acquired an Irish Setter and the breeder asked the
family to show the dog. She showed in Junior
Showmanship until age 10 when Meg chose to compete against
the adults in the Conformation ring.
Meg's obedience interest began at 12 years of age when she
begged her parents to become 4-H leaders. They led the 4-H
club located on Grosse Ile, Michigan. Meg assumed leadership
of the club at age 17. Some of her students went on to
qualify for competition at the prestigious Westminster
Kennel Club dog show, and those students are now married and
still showing dogs.
In 1988, Meg, together with her husband Keith, downsized
breeds and settled on Standard Longhair Dachshunds. At the
helm of their successful Dachshund Kennel, Gemdach
Dachshunds, to date they have bred multi-titled dogs:
Specialty winners, Group winners, Best In Show winners, and
obedience and rally titled dogs in several registries.
Meg spent years handling dogs professionally in the show
ring. She has judged sweepstakes at the Chesapeake Bay
Retriever Nationals, held a UKC multi breed judging license
and much more.
Meg has personally owned and/or handled Irish Setters,
Gordon Setters, Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, Tibetan Terriers,
Standard Longhair Dachshunds, English Pointers, Boxers,
Corgis, Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers and more.
Meg is currently competing in conformation, rally and
obedience.
